Backed by the continuous lush mountains, facing the rippling lucid streams. On September 6, reporters walked into the Longyou Bamboo Culture Museum, which was recently awarded as one of the second batch of rural museums in the Zhejiang Province in 2023, and was attracted by the overall appearance of the bamboo building. This museum, named after "bamboo", is located next to the charming Wulongtan Scenic Area. It exhibits over 400 physical objects related to bamboo collected by the Founder Sun Jianming over the past 30 years from various periods such as the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, as well as the period of the Republic of China.
"This is a bamboo woven food box that I have exerted a lot of efforts to collect. It was from the Guangxu Period and has text markings on it." Sun Jianming pointed to a collection placed separately in a glass cabinet and told reporters. Upon closer inspection, the lid of the food box is still adorned with exquisite meticulous paintings. Sun Jianming said that he started preparing to build this bamboo culture museum in 2014, and it was officially opened in October 2017, and underwent renovation at the beginning of this year. "The collection has increased, and the entire decoration and layout have undergone significant changes."
With Sun Jianming's introduction, the reporters walked up the stairs and found that the window sills, stairs, and the third-floor roof in the museum all looked like having been made of bamboo. Are these all made of bamboo? Upon hearing a reporter's question, Sun Jianming proudly expressed his affirmation. He touched the "bamboo wallpaper" crisscrossing the windows on the third floor and told the reporters that these were all specially made by him, which was very time-consuming. Each exhibition hall on the third floor was also designed with a different style of "bamboo ceiling", and a mini bamboo bridge was specially built in front of the stairs from the first floor to the second floor.
What supported Sun Jianming to invest so much energy in opening this rural museum full of bamboo charm? "It's just because that I like it." Sun Jianming smiled and said. In the process of understanding and pursuing bamboo culture, he found that many items related to bamboo were gradually fading out of people's sight, and some exquisite bamboo weaving techniques were rarely passed down by young people. Therefore, he spent millions of yuan to collect bamboo culture related objects in Ningbo, Anji, Lin'an, as well as in Jiangxi, Anhui and other places, therefore having founded the Longyou Bamboo Culture Museum.
This three-story museum is not very large in size, but is filled with numerous exhibits. In addition to the display section of the collection, there is also a small space for tourists to experience bamboo weaving themselves, and the shelves next to them are filled with various bamboo weaving handicrafts, which are quite attractive. Sun Jianming said that the main purpose of setting up this place is to provide opportunities for children who come to study and practice making handicrafts. "Currently, students coming to our museum are mainly those from schools in Longguan, and we are actively communicating with schools from outisde of Longguan to come and visit."
In addition, it's also learnt that the museum is open to the public for free. If tourists come to visit the museum, they can also park for free in the nearby Wulongtan Scenic Area's parking lot. So where does the funding for maintaining the daily operation of the museum come from? Sun Jianming said that he also opened two homestays. "The money earned there has been invested here," he said, "one of them is also themed with bamboo culture, with the main purpose of integrating culture and tourism. The museum and nearby scenic spots can also form a linkage. After climbing the mountain in the Wulongtan area, tourists can also come here to experience our quiet and relaxing bamboo culture."
