In order to make all children become "upright teenagers", classrooms have been equipped with lifting desks and chairs for more than 80,000 students in Haishu, so as to meet students' height. As one of the practical projects for the benefit of the people in the Zhejiang Province in 2023, the Ningbo Municipal Education Bureau, in collaboration with the Ningbo Municipal Sports Bureau and other departments, has comprehensively carried out the "Action for Spinal Health". More than 423,000 students undergoing compulsory education in the city will complete spinal health screening this year.
On June 6, the Haishu District held a comprehensive training session on the prevention and control of scoliosis in primary and secondary schools. Primary and secondary school doctors or health teachers listened to expert guidance onsite to further enhance their ability to identify and intervene in spinal curvature abnormalities with children and adolescents through basic instruments, and to build a "first-tier team" to maintain spinal health for children and adolescents.
Onsite, experts from the Ningbo Institute of Sports Science and the Ningbo Women's and Children's Hospital provided detailed explanations on the comprehensive prevention and control policies for children and adolescents with scoliosis at the provincial and municipal levels, an overview of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, sports correction treatment for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, and an elaboration on how to do a good job in the comprehensive prevention and control of scoliosis in schools.
In recent years, influenced by various factors such as lifestyle changes, heavy burden of excessive homework and off-campus tutoring, more access to electronic products, and less time for exercising, children and adolescents have frequent problems such as poor posture, functional imbalance, and abnormal spinal curvature, etc.. Scoliosis has become the third major factor affecting the healthy growth of adolescents right after obesity and myopia.
"Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis generally tends to occur at the age from 10 to 16. It is one of the most common diseases of the structure of bones of adolescents, and its incidence rate accounts for 1% to 3% of the whole adolescent population. Therefore, it is particularly important to carry out early screening and early intervention of spinal curvature abnormalities." A relevant person in charge of the Haishu District Education Bureau said.
Since yesterday, the Haishu District has launched the screening of scoliosis among students undergoing compulsory education. This "Action for Spinal Health" aims to cover a targeted number of 75,000 students undergoing compulsory education in the Haishu District. It is reported that the Haishu District has carried out various explorations and practices in order to cultivate "upright teenagers". In the classrooms of the Guangji Central Primary School, there are new desks and chairs that can "grow up" with children. Each desk is equipped with hooks on the outside, which can hang garbage bags and kettles. There are storage baskets under the chairs, and children's bags can be placed right there.
In recent years, Haishu has provided primary and secondary schools with lifting desks and chairs that meet the national standards in batches. At present, over 80,000 students in the district are all using lifting desks and chairs that can "grow up" with them.
