In the scorching summer, the Limei Village located in the Zhangshui Town, Haishu District welcomed the most anticipated moment of the year. Driving along the winding mountain road, passing through a patch of willows and flowers, the reporters arrived at this high-altitude watermelon base. On August 1, the high-altitude watermelons in the Limei Village matured and are ready for sale, bringing a natural gift from an altitude of 600 meters to the "melon enthusiasts".
It is reported that the high-altitude watermelon base in the Limei Village covers an area of 3 mu. In addition to the traditional Zhejiang Honey 6 and the medium-sized watermelon Dongcheng Jiamei variety, five automated greenhouses have been specially set up to cultivate hanging melon varieties. These watermelons are different from those in plain areas, as they grow in a natural "oxygen bar" surrounded by lush mountains and lucid waters, enjoying unique natural conditions.
Zhao Huancheng, Secretary of the CPC Party Branch of the Limei Village, said in an interview: "Agriculture is our foundation, and tourism is an extension of agriculture. In order to attract more tourists to the Limei Village, we must turn agriculture into an industry." Guided by this development concept, this year the Limei Village has attempted to plant high-altitude watermelons for the first time, committed to cultivating pure agricultural products in the natural ecological environment.
Every morning, Mao Miaosong, a local villager, would go to the fields to pick fresh high-altitude watermelons based on orders from the village's "friend circle". The first batch of varieties to be launched this year presents pink and yellow flesh, with a sweet, crisp, and juicy taste, rich in various mineral salts and vitamins. In the scorching summer, soaking watermelon in clear stream water for one or two hours before enjoying, the feeling it brings would be refreshing and invigorating.
Zhao Huancheng introduced that after this batch of high-altitude watermelons was launched, the daily sales volume reached about 225 kilograms, and most of the time customers would come to purchase in person. The base also provides employment opportunities for ethnic minority villagers, with a daily income of up to 150 yuan per person. The high mountain watermelons in the Limei Village not only bring coolness to the citizens in summer, but also inject new vitality into the economic development of the village. In the future, the Limei Village will continue to explore the development path of combining agriculture and tourism, allowing more tourists to experience the sweetness of nature.
