At present, the number of volunteers registered on the We Volunteer Platform alone in the Haishu District has reached 240,000. This expanding volunteer team has become a name card of the Haishu District.

“I am grateful for the changes and development of the city and wish to contribute as much as I can for a better home.” Mao Fengyong, a volunteer from the 81890 Volunteer Service Center, said. Over the past years, Mao has been contributing all his free time to providing volunteer services. In 2016, Mao Fengyong, hoping to help with urban civilization with his strength, volunteered to join the civilization inspection group, becoming a “woodpecker” for the building of civilization, and has been doing this for many years. “I spend about 20 days a month to pick up garbage scattering around and clean up dead ends…” Mao Fengyong said.

An octogenarian with a pseudonym of “Wish” has been popularizing civilization with love over the past 22 years. 22 years ago, after learning in the newspaper that a child in the Jingning She Autonomous County could not afford to go to school because of poverty, the octogenarian began to support the kid anonymously until the kid grew up. Over the past 22 years, the octogenarian insisted on donating money to kids in poverty-stricken areas and welfare homes. The donation has reached over 500,000 yuan as we can see from donation certificates that have been piled up. “I’d like to do something good and help the poor with all I can.” The octogenarian named “Wish” said.

Never hesitate where good is to be done, so as to bring positive energy to the society. At 1 a.m., May 4 this year, a thrilling scene took place in the Yaojiang River in Ningbo at night: a woman fell into the water from the Jiangbei Bridge. At that moment of emergency, Mou Manhong, a take-out delivery boy, heard the cry for help, jumped into the river without hesitation. Every second counted. He crossed the Yaojiang River all along in one breath to save the woman. Under his guidance, firefighters also arrived in time to save the woman ashore. Mou was not only brave while facing the danger, but also strengthened the background of civilization in the Haishu District.

She dedicates for greater achievements though on an ordinary post. Over the years, Zhou Xiaohong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Wenchang Community in the Gulou Sub-district, has been doing work with a strong sense of dedication and high responsibility. She and her partners in the community have formed a volunteer team, striving in the front line of building a civilized city. The community has witnessed great changes over the past 6 years when Zhou Xiaohong’s on duty in the Wenchang Community: in 2015, the community owners committee was established and the deserted garbage house was changed into a place for residents to carry out activities; in 2016, 48 new parking spaces were added after transformation of the parking lot and the relationship between the property management unit, the community and residents was harmonious; in 2017, The first standardized garbage house in the Haishu District was built in the community, and 88 corridors were lighted; in 2018, all residential quarters boasted full coverage of the safety monitoring system; in 2019, the transformation of entrance access management completed, and parking charge’s standardized and in order; this year, the transformation of old residential quarters are being carried out and jobs are being done for improving residents’ sense of happiness…
